"The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" by James Thurber

I've just seen The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, the movie, directed by and starring Ben Stiller and (because this is a place to share stories, rather than a place to critique films) I'll say only this: It's awful.

But, the original short (published by The New Yorker in 1939) from which the film gets its title and its inspiration isn't so bad. It's good even, because of its sadness and subtlety. (The film is about as subtle as a skateboard over the head--sorry a bit of a critique, couldn't help myself.)
