"No Dogs Bark" by Juan Rulfo

At some point, every morning, my work is interrupted by the barks of my miniature schnauzer who is agitated by someone walking down the sidewalk, or the garbage truck passing by, or a bird flying overhead, or the rustle of the trees. Anyway, inspired by her annoying habit, I Googled short stories about barking dogs and came upon a Latin American classic  "No Dogs Bark" by Juan Rulfo.

I'd never come across Rulfo before, but he's actually one of Mexico's most esteemed writers, and the story, as an allegory for the Mexican Revolution, is pretty interesting.
